My Christian Testimony From Darkness to Light

Complete Testimony (as a continuous narrative word for word from the video)

I was really lost and now I’m found. As a child, the first time I remember encountering Christ was when I was invited to a church gathering by my first-grade teacher. At that gathering, I encountered the Spirit of Christ after someone prayed about receiving Jesus.

That was the first time I experienced the Spirit of Christ like that but wasn’t the first time I experienced things from God (all things from God really come from Christ). For example, when I was younger, I remember talking to a spirit man or an angel. I think in some instances, when we’re younger, we’re closer to God, but as we get older, the world takes us away from that closeness.

The angel said that I would face many trials and difficulties in life and that I would go away from the truth. But the one who knows all truth would come and show me the truth. The one who does that is Christ. The Holy Spirit is our teacher.

Maybe that happened so I would always remember it and be able to recall that God was always with me and cared for me. The first time I really recall encountering the Spirit of Christ, I remember going home and telling my mom that Jesus is God.

The Spirit of Christ shows us the truth, and the Spirit of Christ testifies to who Christ is. As the angel had told me, I did end up going my own way. There were many trials in life and the things of the world. The world is darkness, and our own flesh and mind are at war against the knowledge of God.

The Spirit of Christ wrestles against the things of the world, and I fought against the truth (because I was carnally minded and need to repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand). It’s really wrong and ungodly to do this. We are to have childlike faith in Christ and God, but I did go my own way for awhile.

Fundamentally, I always knew what the truth was. I could never be unconvinced that Jesus is Lord because of the experiences I had with Him. But I was stubborn and rebelled.

My faith would waver like waves tossed in the ocean, going up and down. This happened because sin shipwrecks faith. I didn’t have control of my desires, my lusts, or my affections. What I focused on was easily influenced by different ideas or ideologies in the world, which is really idolatry.

Any form of spirituality apart from Christ is demonic spirituality, and it’s destructive and not good for us. Salvation is the only thing that is really good for us. No faith or having a form of godliness but denying its power thereof—which is salvation—is meaningless.

Faith must be rooted in the love that God has for us in Christ Jesus. This makes our faith strong.

It was almost like those desires inside me would manifest and depending on the stage of life I was in, they would manifest at different levels or degrees.

When I was older, I eventually got into drugs, sex, and things like that. All those things leave you empty and wanting more. The problem just grows worse and worse, and there was a lot of trouble, especially spiritually.

Some of the worst spirituality I got into was New Age stuff and New Age thinking. It’s really terrible spiritually. It’s full of worship of demons and worship of the self—the idea that “we are gods” and “we manifest our own destiny.”

This is the first lie ever told to humanity—that we would be as gods if we eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Because of this sin nature, I encountered many troubles, and my life fell apart more than once.

I ended up going to jail for a year for drinking and driving, but that’s not why I really went to jail. I actually violated probation. It almost seemed like one of the women I was with at the time wanted that to happen, so she made it happen.

She made it happen—my probation violation—after she had invited me over to drink at her house. Then, magically, she called the cops so I would violate.

I felt broken because the people who are supposed to love you don’t, and they can cause the most trouble for you. I had to sit in jail for about a year. My biggest problem was me, and I didn’t understand that it was because I was still controlled by the flesh and the evil desires of the flesh.

Christ sacrificed His life’s blood to set us free, and because of this, our sins are forgiven. He does away with our evil desires and gives us self-control, which is a part of love. This self-control protects us from things like that.

We deserve to be punished if we’re living ungodly and making foolish decisions according to the lust and desires of the flesh. But Christ is life—in contrast to that, He is what we really need, not the foolish things of the world.

It’s almost like sin in me would manifest like that over and over again. It would grow, and sin fully grow is death. But God willing, if we can mature and grow in Christ, it is life.

This is part one of my testimony; I will continue talking about it later. God bless you in Jesus’ name.

The flesh is useless—only the Spirit of Christ leads to life. The Spirit of Christ transforms us and brings new life. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. This is salvation.

When I was going through troubles and trials in my life, I was living apart from the knowledge of God found in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I mentioned in the first testimony video that I had gotten into some spirituality that’s not from God, like new age spirituality. These things are really about the worship of demons, and they’re not good for us.

When I first got into this, I started having a lot of sleep paralysis and terrible dreams full of darkness, which is what this world brings—darkness. Christ is light.

When I had this sleep paralysis, it felt like something was breaking into my chest, like trying to break a barrier or something. I don’t really know, but it felt like it was digging at me. The only thing that would stop this was something inside me calling out to the name of Jesus Christ.

What I didn’t understand at the time was that it was a spiritual attack. I was being spiritually attacked, and what opened me up to it was unclean spiritualitydemonic spirituality, new age spirituality, and spiritual things from the world.

More than that, I was spiritually weak. These things were designed by the enemy to take me away from the truth, which is Christ.

If we are firm in Christ, I don’t think these things really happen—unless there is some kind of weakness in your heart regarding understanding that you need to be submitted to Christ and God, to seek first the kingdom of heaven and its righteousness.

I think spiritual weakness comes from not having a believing heart in Christ Jesus. There’s an unbelieving heart and a believing heart, but when you are rooted in the love that God has for us in Christ, these things no longer have power over you.

So submit to Christ, and the devil flees from you.

A lot of people struggle with these things and experience sleep paralysis without knowing the cause. I think fundamentally, it is being not rooted in the truth—which is a believing heart in Christ Jesus.

Those who experience sleep paralysis often report calling out to the name of Jesus, and it stops immediately. Christ is the truth, and the enemy is afraid of Christ.

The truth is that demons are afraid of Christ. Their only goal is to destroy us and pull us away from the truth. Christ is the only thing they truly fear. The only way to be filled with Christ is for those who desire to seek first the kingdom of heaven and its righteousness, because then they shall be filled.

Those evil spiritual powers and authorities that fight against us—spiritual forces, powers, and wicked authorities in high places—are focused on destroying the work of Christ. However, they cannot succeed if we submit to Christ, because then the devil must flee.

When this started happening about ten years ago, what triggered it was being distracted by demonic spirituality. That is its nature. These demons began to haunt me and try to carry out their destructive work in my life. Drugs only made it worse, making me weaker spiritually. The problems got worse when I engaged in things like drugs.

The wisdom of this world is sensual and demonic; it tries to masquerade as light. The sensual nature of its wisdom feels good in the flesh, like being high, but it is false spirituality.

However, if we seek first the kingdom of heaven and its righteousness, we shall be truly filled and experience true spirituality—by knowing Christ and God. I was being troubled for a long time with spiritual attacks. I didn’t understand why or what the purpose was. I believed love was everything, but I wasn’t rooted in the love God has for me, which made me weak.

We need to be rooted in the love God has for us. We might believe in love fundamentally, but if we aren’t rooted in God’s love, there is no real substance—it is not sufficient. Love through Christ is established for us, and this is salvation.

Eventually, I became worn out and gave up. I stopped seeking the things of this world and the burdens of the world. I needed to seek rest and to seek Christ. Jesus said, “Come unto me, all you who are weary and burdened, and you will find rest.”

I stopped seeking relationships and worldly things because God was calling me out. He had a different plan for me. Christ is calling us to wake up—“Wake up, oh sleeper, and rise.” Christ will shine on you.

The flesh is at enmity with God and Christ. It is spiritual warfare going on. As Christians, we need to wake up so Christ can shine on us. If we are ruled by the flesh and its desires, then we are asleep, dead in sin. We must have our hope in things above, not below.

When Our hope is in Christ and salvation. God will restore what is lost and heal you. This is salvation—to make you more like Christ. In doing so, we see the power of God at work in our lives. The power of God is salvation.

After I gave up, the Lord began to fight for me. He desires good things for His children. He gave me a wife who follows Jesus and encouraged me to pray every day. Since then, I have been spiritually better.

We need to remember to pray and thank God for all things concerning us. We should be thankful for what God has done for us, for salvation, and for the gift of life in Christ. Life is beautiful in Christ, and we can be full of hope.

When we have Our hope in things above and not below, and when we are thankful for what God has done through Christ, we are alive and find encouragement through trials in our lives.

Expansion Darkness to Light – Expanded With Scripture Reference

The Apostles’ Encounter with Christ

Paul’s life vividly illustrates the power of God’s grace to bring us “out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9 CEV). His shipwreck testimony on Malta shows how even when our faith seems shipwrecked, Christ delivers. On the road to Damascus, Paul encountered “a light from heaven [that] blazed around me” and heard Jesus ask, “Why are you persecuting me?” (Acts 9:3–4 CEV). This spiritual captivity deliverance pivoted his mission from persecutor to apostle.

Peter’s journey mirrors Paul’s turn from darkness. Denying Jesus three times felt like his faith had failed, yet the risen Lord gently restored him—“Do you love me?” (John 21:15–17 CEV)—demonstrating that when we submit to Christ, the devil flees. Empowered by that restoration, Peter proclaimed believers as “a chosen race, a royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9 CEV), urging them to live in holiness.

Both apostles emphasize living with true faith daily and knowing truth through the Holy Spirit. They teach that sin shipwrecks faith experiences when we lack self-control from the Spirit, but that a new creation transformation story is available: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17 CEV).

Trials did not deter them but became platforms for encouragement through trials. Paul urged believers to “stand firm in the Lord” (Philippians 4:1 CEV) and to “seek first the kingdom of heaven and its righteousness” (Matthew 6:33 CEV). Peter called them to walking in light experiences (1 John 1:7 CEV), shining as beacons in a dark world.

Their testimonies remind us that even amid “weariness and burden,” Jesus invites us to rest: “Come to me… and you will find rest” (Matthew 11:28 CEV). When we face fighting spiritual forces and powers, we declare His victory, confident in the power of God at work (Ephesians 3:20 CEV).

“I was really lost, and now I’m found.”

Those simple words capture the core of my story: a journey from darkness into light, from bondage into freedom, from confusion into clarity. It’s a journey that began when I was a little kid and continues today—because Christ’s work in us is never finished until we stand before Him.

Seek first the kingdom of heaven and its righteousness, and you shall be filled.

God bless you in Jesus’ name.

Summary

1. A Child’s First Encounter

As a child, the first time that I remember encountering Christ, I was invited to a church gathering by my first-grade teacher. I encountered the Spirit of Christ after someone prayed—prayed about receiving Jesus. In that moment, I felt something holy and real wash over me. It was like suddenly the heavy curtain of fear and uncertainty lifted, and I saw a glimmer of hope.

But that wasn’t the very first time I’d sensed God’s presence. Even younger, I remember talking to a spirit man—an angelic presence. In those early years, I believe children are naturally closer to the heavenly realm. As we get older, the noise of the world tries to drown out that still, small voice of God. When that angel spoke to me, he said:

“You will have many trials and difficulties in life, and you will go away from the truth. But the One who knows all truth will come and show you the truth.”

That One, of course, is Christ. The Holy Spirit is our teacher, guiding us back when we wander. I believe God allowed me to glimpse heaven early on so that I would always recall He cared for me, even when I felt abandoned.

2. Wandering From the Path

After that childhood encounter, I did go my own way. The world offers many distractions—friends, trends, philosophies—that promise satisfaction but leave you emptier than before. I fought against the truth, stubbornly convinced I could chart my own course. Yet deep down I could never be fully unconvinced: Jesus is Lord. My memory of His reality made full unbelief impossible, even when my faith felt weak.

My spiritual life became like a wave tossed in the ocean—sometimes riding high when I remembered God’s goodness, then crashing low under sin’s weight. Sin shipwrecks faith. Without self-control, my lusts and passions took the wheel of my life. I chased after every new ideology, every tempting philosophy, not realizing that any spirituality apart from Christ is ultimately idolatry—demonic in its origin and destructive in its outcome.

“Any form of spirituality apart from Christ is really demonic spirituality, and it’s destructive and not for our good.”

It’s a hard truth, but one I learned the painful way.

3. The Pit of Despair

As I grew older, my sin nature manifested more boldly. Drugs, sex, empty thrills—they seemed to promise relief, but always delivered regret and deeper emptiness. The more I pursued them, the more I found myself in trouble. My life literally fell apart:

  • I violated probation and ended up in jail for a year.
  • I lost relationships with people I once called friends.
  • I was spiritually attacked, haunted by nightmares and the paralysis of fear.

I remember one night of sleep paralysis so vivid it felt like claws tearing into my chest. I didn’t understand it then, but now I see it was a spiritual assault: the enemy trying to drive me further from the truth. The only thing that ever stopped it was calling out, “Jesus Christ!” In that name is power over darkness.

“If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17, CEV)

That promise sustained me, even in a prison cell. I clung to the hope that Christ’s blood had already paid for my sins and that His Spirit could yield self-control where I had none.

4. A Glimpse of True Freedom

One of the darkest moments came when I realized the worst enemy wasn’t the jail guard or my past mistakes—but myself. I was ruled by the desires of the flesh. But Jesus offers something radically different:

“’Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’” (Matthew 11:28, CEV)

When I finally stopped striving in my own strength and looked to Him, I experienced a taste of true rest. It wasn’t a magic fix to my problems, but it changed my perspective: instead of seeking relief in temporary pleasures, I began seeking Christ.

5. Spiritual Warfare and Deliverance

The spiritual world is real, and it’s at war. Ephesians 6:12 (CEV) warns us:

“We don’t fight against human enemies, but against the powerful spirits who rule the darkness of this world.”

My experiences with sleep paralysis, dark dreams, and haunting fears weren’t mere nightmares—they were attacks designed to steal my faith. But resistance in Christ scatters the darkness.

When you root yourself in God’s love—when your heart believes deeply—you won’t be shaken by every wind of doctrine or every demonic whisper. Submit to Christ, and the devil must flee (James 4:7).

6. Restoration Through Love

After that prison season, the Lord began to fight for me in tangible ways. He brought into my life someone who embodied His love—my wife, Tonet, a fellow follower of Jesus. She encouraged me to:

  • Pray every day
  • Thank God for both the trials and the victories
  • Read Scripture, grounding myself in God’s promises

Since I embraced a daily rhythm of prayer and gratitude, I’ve seen spiritual growth I once thought impossible. The same habits that had enslaved me—singular focus on fleshly desires—now became opportunities to practice self-control in Christ.

“Be joyful always; pray at all times; and give thanks in every situation.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, CEV)

7. Living Hope Amid Trials

Life did not suddenly become problem‑free. In fact, I recently lost my job for openly sharing my faith in Jesus at work. Yet I’m not devastated—I’m encouraged. Why? Because my hope is anchored above, not in a paycheck or human approval.

Jesus promised persecution for those who follow Him (John 15:20). Yet He also said:

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because they stand for what is right, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to them.” (Matthew 5:10, CEV)

No trial can separate us from Christ’s love (Romans 8:35–39). Trials refine our faith, deepen our dependence on Him, and equip us to comfort others.

8. The Power of Testimony

Why share all this? Because your story matters. The Bible is full of testimonies—people like you and me who encountered God, fell, were restored, and walked in newness of life. Your testimony:

  1. Glorifies God. It shows His redeeming power.
  2. Encourages others. When they see change, they’ll believe change is possible.
  3. Builds community. Vulnerability invites genuine connection and prayer.

I pray that by reading this, you’ll be reminded: no one is beyond God’s reach. Even if you’re in a place of deepest despair, His light can break through.

9. Practical Steps Forward

If you’re resonating with my journey, here are a few things you can do today:

  1. Invite Christ in prayer. You don’t need flowery words—just speak from your heart.
  2. Get into Scripture. Start with passages like Matthew 11:28–30, 2 Corinthians 5:17, and Ephesians 6:10–18.
  3. Join a community. Find a local church or Bible study group where you can be known and supported.
  4. Practice gratitude. List three things you’re thankful for each morning.
  5. Speak the Name of Jesus. In moments of fear or temptation, call on His name—it has power over darkness.

10. Ongoing Transformation

My story is far from over. Every day, I’m learning to:

  • Walk in love, rather than fear
  • Rely on the Holy Spirit, rather than my own strength
  • Seek first the Kingdom, rather than fleeting pleasures

God’s work in us is a lifelong process of sanctification—being made more like Jesus. Philippians 1:6 (CEV) assures us:

“I am sure that God, who began this good work in you, will continue it until it is finally finished on that day when Christ Jesus returns.”

Conclusion: A New Creation

“If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17, CEV)

That promise is for you too. Maybe you’re reading this and feel far from God, weighed down by regrets or fearful of dark forces. He’s calling you out:

“Wake up, oh sleeper, and rise! Christ will shine on you.”

Let His light chase away your darkness. Let His blood wash away your guilt. Let His Spirit fill you with power, love, and self‑control. Your testimony will start here—and your life story will become a beacon of hope for others still trapped in the shadows.

Seek first the kingdom of heaven and its righteousness, and you shall be filled.

God bless you in Jesus’ name.
