I had a dream recently that brought back vivid memories of a prophetic vision from five years ago. In both experiences, an evil spirit sought to consume my eyes—literally feasting on my vision and twisting my identity. These encounters reminded me of spiritual warfare’s reality and the unmatched power of Christ to preserve and restore our sight—both physical and spiritual. In this post, we’ll unpack what God has been teaching me through these supernatural experiences, explore the underlying biblical truths, and discover practical steps we can all take to stand firm in God’s saving light.
1. A Disturbing Dream: Eyes Under Siege
In the dream, I found myself rooted in place as a demonic figure advanced slowly. Its form was indistinct—half‑shadow, half‑corporeal—but its intent was clear. It opened its mouth wide and began to consume my eyes. With every agonizing moment, my sight dimmed until darkness overtook me. Anxiety and helplessness washed over me as I realized how easily our vision—our ability to perceive truth—can be stolen.
Spiritual Blindness Illustrated
This vivid image parallels what the apostle Paul describes when he writes:
“The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ.”
(2 Corinthians 4:4)
Satan’s tactics include deception and spiritual blindness. When people reject Christ’s light, they become vulnerable to lies—unable to recognize the truth or their own worth as God’s image‑bearers.
2. Flashback to a Vision: A Man and a Serpent
Five years earlier, I experienced a vision in which a man stood bound by an evil spirit manifested as a witch. A huge serpent danced around him, hissing venomous words and stripping away his features until he was unrecognizable. The man’s voice was silent; he had no identity apart from the spirit that controlled him.
The Portrait of Lost Humanity
This vision revealed how sin and deception can strip away our godly identity:
- Unrecognizable: Without Christ, our spiritual image becomes distorted.
- Bound: We become captive to patterns that neither honor God nor benefit us.
- Hissed Lies: The serpent’s voice echoes the lie spoken to Eve—“You will be like God” (Genesis 3:5)—promising autonomy but delivering bondage.
Yet in that vision I felt a deep compulsion to shout, “No more!” It was a prophetic declaration that only Christ’s authority can break every dark chain.
3. Two Spiritual Realities
God used both the dream and the vision to highlight two contrasting realities:
- Satan’s Strategy
- He blinds hearts to the gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4).
- He deceives through half‑truths and counterfeit spirituality.
- Christ’s Victory
- “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5).
- In Jesus, spiritual sight is preserved, and true identity is restored.
As believers, we are called to abide in Christ, who is the true Light. By remaining connected to Him, no evil force can permanently rob us of seeing God’s glory.
4. True Religion: Caring for Orphans and Widows
James 1:27 defines “pure religion” as caring for orphans and widows. Spiritually speaking:
- Orphans are those who don’t know their heavenly Father.
- Widows are those who don’t know their heavenly Husband—Christ Jesus.
Christ’s heart moves us beyond self‑preservation to compassionate outreach. We not only guard our own spiritual vision but guide the blind—leading them into the family of God and helping them recognize Christ’s lordship.
Practical Outworkings:
- Hospitality: Invite those without church connections into your home.
- Mentorship: Pair mature believers with new or struggling Christians.
- Prayer Support: Commit to praying regularly for those who feel spiritually orphaned.
5. Our Restored Identity in Christ
When we place our faith in Jesus:
- Our Eyes Are Opened to know the Father’s love and purpose (Ephesians 1:17–18).
- Our Identity Is Restored as God’s image‑bearers, created in His likeness (Genesis 1:27).
- We Bear the Hope of Glory within us, a promise of future transformation (Colossians 1:27).
Even amid spiritual attacks, the Holy Spirit secures our vision, reminding us of who we are in Christ.
6. Agreement with God: Sin No Longer Lives
God declared that sin died on the cross with Christ. When we repent and believe:
- Our Old Self Dies with Him—condemnation erased.
- We Rise in Newness of Life—resurrected with Christ.
Daily repentance is simply agreeing with God’s Word that “the old has gone, the new is here” (2 Corinthians 5:17). This spiritual agreement ensures sin cannot reclaim our sight or our identity.
7. Resurrection Power at Work
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead now energizes our lives:
- Victory Over Death: Physical death no longer has the final word (1 Corinthians 15:55–57).
- Freedom From Fear: We stand secure, knowing Christ intercedes for us (Romans 8:31–34).
- Strength for Service: The Spirit empowers us to walk in bold obedience (Acts 1:8).
This resurrection power stands as our fortress against every deception and attack.
8. Practical Steps to Guard Your Spiritual Sight
- Pray for Spiritual Eyesight “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things in Your law.” (Psalm 119:18)
- Saturate Yourself in Scripture
God’s Word is a lamp to our feet and light to our path (Psalm 119:105). Daily reading renews our vision. - Stay Connected in Christian Community
Fellowship with believers sharpens our insight and provides accountability (Hebrews 10:24–25). - Engage in Compassionate Outreach
Reach out to those spiritually “orphaned” and guide them into the light of Christ. - Confess and Repent
When darkness creeps in, immediately confess any area of sin or doubt, and recommit to the truth of God’s Word.
9. A Prayer for Spiritual Clarity
Heavenly Father, thank You for opening our eyes to see You. We repent of any agreement with darkness that would blind us. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, that we may walk in the light of Christ. Restore to us the image You intended, and empower us to guide others into Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
10. The Unbreakable Promise
Beloved, no darkness can extinguish Christ’s light in you. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus—the Author and Perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). As you abide in Him, you will walk each day in the clarity of His truth, unburdened by the enemy’s lies.
