There are two ways to move through life:
- By sight — guided by what seems logical, predictable, safe, and physically visible.
- By faith — guided by trust in God’s promises, God’s Word, and God’s character, even when circumstances are unclear.
The Bible calls us to live differently from the world.
To live by faith is to see with the eyes of the heart what cannot yet be seen with the eyes of the body.
2 Corinthians 5:7 (CEV):
“We live by faith, not by what we see.”
Faith is not pretending everything feels fine.
Faith is trusting God even when it does not yet look fine.
Faith is not blindness.
Faith sees deeper.
Faith sees:
- Who God is
- What God has said
- Where God is leading
- Even when the path is not visible yet
Faith Begins with Trusting the Character of God
Faith is not forcing yourself to believe harder.
Faith is resting in who God is.
Psalm 9:10 (CEV):
“You, LORD, have never deserted those who trust in you.”
To live by faith, you must settle this truth:
God is good. God is faithful. God can be trusted.
If you do not trust God’s character —
you will not trust God’s guidance.
Faith is not based on circumstances.
Faith is based on the unchanging heart of God.
Faith Believes What God Has Spoken — Even Before It Happens
Hebrews 11:1 (CEV):
“Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see.”
Faith is like a light in the dark.
It lets you step forward when you cannot see the full path.
God rarely shows the whole road.
He shows the next step — and invites you to trust Him for the rest.
This is how Abraham walked with God.
Hebrews 11:8 (CEV):
“He had faith and obeyed God when he was told to go to a land that God had said would be his.”
He went, even though he did not know the destination.
Faith says:
“If God is leading, it is enough.”
Living by Sight Leads to Fear — Living by Faith Leads to Peace
When we live by sight:
- Problems look bigger than promises
- We depend on our own strength
- Fear controls our decisions
But when we live by faith:
- God’s promises become our reality
- We depend on His strength
- Peace guards our hearts
Isaiah 26:3 (CEV):
“The LORD gives perfect peace to those whose faith is firm.”
Faith is not a feeling.
Faith is a direction — a turning of the heart toward God.
Living by Faith Does Not Mean Life Will Be Easy
Faith is not a shield from hardship.
Faith is the power to stand through hardship.
The heroes of Scripture did not live easy lives:
- Joseph was betrayed
- Moses was rejected
- David was hunted
- Daniel was thrown to lions
- The disciples suffered for the gospel
Yet they overcame — not by strength, but by faith.
Faith is not the absence of struggle.
Faith is trusting God through the struggle.
Faith Acts — It Does Not Stay Still
James 2:17 (CEV):
“Faith that doesn’t lead us to do good deeds is all alone and dead!”
Faith takes steps.
Faith moves.
Faith responds.
Faith is not just believing with the mind.
Faith is living out what you believe.
Faith says:
- If God says forgive → I forgive
- If God says give → I give
- If God says trust → I trust
- If God says love → I love
- If God says follow → I follow
Even when it’s hard.
Even when it doesn’t feel natural yet.
Even when the outcome isn’t visible.
Faith is obedience born from love.
Faith and Sight Will Conflict — But Faith Must Lead
There will be moments when:
- Logic says “This is impossible”
- Fear says “You will fail”
- Pain says “God has forgotten you”
- Circumstances say “There is no hope”
But faith says:
“God is still here. God is still working. God will keep His promise.”
Faith is not denial of reality.
Faith is seeing the deeper reality:
God is in control.
Romans 8:28 (CEV):
“We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves him.”
When you cannot see the plan —
You trust the One who holds it.
How to Practically Live by Faith Daily
| Spiritual Practice | What It Means | How to Apply Today |
|---|---|---|
| Read the Word | Anchor your mind in God’s promises | Read one psalm and one gospel chapter daily |
| Pray honestly | Bring doubts to God, not away from Him | Say: “Lord, I believe — help my unbelief.” |
| Obey the next step | Faith grows when acted upon | Do the last thing God told you to do |
| Speak truth aloud | Replace fear-thoughts with Scripture | Declare verses throughout the day |
| Stay connected to believers | Faith is strengthened in community | Meet weekly with believers who encourage faith |
Faith grows when it is exercised.
A Steadying Takeaway in Christ
Living by faith means trusting God more than what we see, feel, or understand. 2 Corinthians 5:7 (CEV) teaches that Christians are called to “live by faith, not by what we see.” This means our decisions, identity, hope, and confidence are based on God’s character and promises — not on circumstances.
Faith is not an attempt to believe hard enough. Faith is rooted in the unchanging nature of God. Psalm 9:10 (CEV) says God never deserts those who trust Him. When we remember that God is good, faithful, strong, and present, we learn to trust His leading even when the path ahead is unclear.
Faith acts before the outcome is visible. Abraham obeyed when God called him, even though he did not know where he was going (Hebrews 11:8 CEV). Faith steps into God’s will now and trusts that God will take care of what comes next.
Living by sight leads to fear; living by faith leads to peace. Isaiah 26:3 (CEV) reminds us that God gives perfect peace to those whose faith is firm. Faith does not remove hardship but gives strength to stand through hardship. The heroes of Scripture endured suffering, not because life was easy, but because they trusted God’s presence and purpose.
Faith is not passive. James 2:17 (CEV) says faith that does not lead to action is dead. Faith expresses itself in obedience — forgiving, loving, giving, trusting, and serving because God has spoken.
To live by faith daily, we stay rooted in Scripture, pray honestly, take obedient steps, speak God’s truth aloud, and stay in fellowship with believers. Faith grows through use. Living by faith means trusting God in every season and choosing His word over our feelings. When we cannot see the future, we trust the One who holds it.
